Arranged visits to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Operations Control Centre and Integrated Simulation Centre (Registration is now closed)
All IPBA and AMLC delegates are invited to join us for a stimulating afternoon of site visits to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore’s Port Operations Control Centre and Integrated Simulation Centre on 5 May, from 2 to 5pm. Port Operations Control Centre (POCC) The POCC operates 24 hours, managing shipping traffic in the Singapore Strait and port waters around the clock. It operates a multi-radar Vessel Traffic Information System, providing real-time picture of traffic situation in the Straits and port waters. The system employs Singapore Electronic Navigation Charts, displayed on high-resolution graphic computer terminals. A ship database system provides information on vessels’ particulars. The POCC operates a shore-based Global Maritime Distress and Safety System facility to monitor distress alerts and calls from ships, and co-ordinate search and rescue (SAR) operations. It also disseminates Maritime Safety Information through the VHF, NAVTEX, and SafetyNET systems.
Integrated Simulation Centre of Singapore (ISC) The ISC, or Integrated Simulation Centre, was set up to further boost the quality and efficiency of maritime training conducted in Singapore using simulators. Its simulators offer different realistic scenarios for training of ship officers and crew in a risk-free environment. Although developed primarily for the training of shipboard personnel, the ISC is also capable of conducting marine research and development for port planning. ISC supports the CSS function of conducting assessment of seafarers for certification and licensing using its simulators. Offering maritime simulation training in a safe environment, the ISC is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art marine simulators. Its key features are a 240o field-of-view Tug/Small/Fast Vessel Simulator, a Vessel Traffic System Simulator, and a Global Maritime Distress Safety System/Search and Rescue Simulator.
